summer reading list

I made a list and checked it twice. It was the list of books I checked out of the library today to fill my summer reading list. The stack of books makes me excited about the adventures that lie ahead in them. Most of the books are fiction and one of them, Anna Karenina, will be my second reading (one of my favorites). Some are new, such as Laughing Without an Accent, and some have been around for quite a long time, such as The Man Who Was Thursday. What are you reading this summer?

  1. Home by Marylin Robinson.

The Arms of Krupp (yes I’m that geeky).

    Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

Still searching for other books . . . looking for good bookshelves to raid.

I don’t read in the summer, or so says my Goodreads account.

Ooh! Ooh! You are going to love Home, AP! It is wonderful in that deeply satisfying way that Marilynne Robinson is, even though nothing ever happens in her novels. :)

CP, I am reading a collection of short stories compiled by Jeffrey Eugenides called My Mistress’ Sparrow is Dead. It’s all a bunch of love stories, and our good buddy Alice Munro is included. I’ll let you know if I discover any interesting new writers, since short story anthologies tend to be how I run across people I’d like to read more of.

I also am reading Dickens Great Expectations. I have tried to read it before, but for some reason, this time around it is finally hitting me the right way and I am enjoying it.

I probably need to give Anna Karenina another go … I got about halfway through a couple of years ago and then got lost and gave up. This happens to me a lot of with Russian authors.

We need to all have a book recommendation exchange over Labor Day.

I started On The Road in the fall and finished it in India. I left it behind for the next traveler to come through. It was a fun one to wander with!Have fun! It will make you feel awfully adventurous…be careful…
